Hidden within a protected stretch of tropical wilderness, our Jungle Edition trip is set deep in nature — where dense rainforest meets quiet, untouched coastline. You’ll stay in an eco-conscious, beachfront glamping lodge surrounded by lush jungle wildlife and fall sleep to the sound of the ocean. This is a place largely unchanged by tourism, where days unfold slowly and the outside world feels very far away.
The surf here is uncrowded with long, playful waves well-suited for longboarding across a range of conditions. Our dates are carefully chosen to align with optimal tides and seasonal patterns for logs, allowing for long sessions and full days built around the ocean. This is a true surf trip rhythm: surf, eat, rest, surf, repeat.
Between sessions, there’s nothing to rush back to. Empty beaches stretch in both directions, the jungle hums quietly behind you, and the only soundtrack is nature itself. Expect space, stillness, and a deep sense of presence — the kind that only comes from being fully immersed in a protected natural environment.
Every Cosmic Cross Step retreat is led by an experienced and passionate coach who lives and breathes longboarding. With years of surf instruction under their belts, our coaches combine deep technical knowledge, expert video analysis, and supportive, joyful guidance in and out of the water.
Their approach is holistic — blending water time with land-based movement practices to develop body awareness, build neural pathways, and support lasting transformation. Additionally, we work with local surf guides who bring essential wave knowledge and cultural context to every session, deepening your experience on every level.
We’re honored to have Indonesian surf legend Akaa as part of our coaching team. Originally from Java and now based in Bali, Akaa has taught at top surf schools across the island before founding his own: Dawn Patrol Bali.
He’s known for his smooth style, nose-riding finesse, and ability to break down complex skills like cross-stepping in ways that feel approachable and fun. His friendly demeanor and positive energy will inspire you in and out of the water, and his passion for the art and history of longboarding is contagious. We can’t wait for you to meet him!
Lena is a fitness expert, personal trainer, Qigong instructor, and certified ISA Level 1 & 2 surf coach. She’s been surfing since 2010 and has multiple national championships under her belt.
As co-founder and head coach of an international surf school in Bali, Lena has a decade of experience creating tailored training programs that merge surf technique with body mechanics, breath, and energy awareness. Her movement background — from Tai Chi to fitness training — makes her coaching both intuitive and grounded in somatic wisdom.
Born and raised in Bali, Adi has been surfing and competing since he was young. He began coaching in 2016, originally focused on shortboarding. After years in a highly performance-driven environment, surfing slowly shifted from joy to pressure — until everything changed in 2024 when he picked up a longboard for the first time.
Longboarding reconnected him to the ocean in a way he hadn’t felt in years. It brought back his playfulness, softened his energy, and reminded him of the joy that first made him fall in love with surfing — a joy he now loves sharing with others. As a coach, Adi brings patience, positivity, and a fun-focused approach that helps guests feel at ease in the water.
You can always find Adi in the lineup wearing the biggest smile doing the silliest tricks on the board - we’re so grateful to have him on the team.

The Cosmic Cross Step is an 8 day, all-inclusive surf retreat on a remote Indonesian island. We focus on refining your longboarding skills through personalized coaching, expert video analysis, land drills, and cultural immersion. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced longboarder, this retreat is designed to help you progress and deepen your connection to the ocean.
While the retreat is best suited for those who have already caught a few waves, it’s not ideal for complete beginners. If you're newer to surfing and want to build confidence before the retreat, we offer 1:1 online coaching to help you get surf-ready. Please see our online surf coaching page for more details.
This retreat is for anyone with a curiosity for longboarding, both men and women. Whether you’re an individual, a couple, or a family. It is ideal for surfers who have caught a few waves on their own and want to take their skills to the next level as well as more intermediate surfers working on specific techniques and everyone in between.
The waves here are ideal for longboarding, with a variety of breaks nearby that accommodate different swell sizes and conditions. Our retreat dates are carefully chosen around ideal tides/seasons to maximize wave quality - expect long, cruisy, turquoise walls with plenty of time and space to practice walking, nose riding, and refining your flow.
In line with our values, we intentionally keep our retreat locations private until your booking is confirmed. This is part of our commitment to protecting the integrity of remote surf destinations and minimizing the impact of mass tourism. We’ve witnessed the effects of overexposure on so many sacred places, especially in Indonesia, and we’re dedicated to doing our part in preserving their beauty for future generations. We promise a serene and authentic experience in untouched, stunning surroundings.
To maintain an intimate and personalized experience, we limit the retreat to 6-10 guests. This ensures individual coaching and a more relaxed, tailored retreat experience, with plenty of time for everyone to enjoy many waves and not overcrowd the lineup.
Yes, many of the waves here break over reef, but we time our retreats to coincide with optimal tides for safety and comfort. Reef booties are not required but can be worn if you prefer them for extra confidence.
Absolutely! We love welcoming families. The resort has space and amenities for everyone to enjoy. Whether your spouse or kids want to join in the surfing or relax and soak up the island vibes, we can arrange tailored packages. We can also suggest family-friendly activities and childcare if needed.
We provide longboard rentals as part of the retreat package so you don’t need to worry about bringing your own board. Traveling with surfboards in Indonesia can be challenging and costly, but if you prefer to bring your own, we’ll help make arrangements.
To secure your spot, a 50% deposit is required. We’ll send you an invoice with payment details once your retreat spot is confirmed. Payments are processed securely through Wise (or Venmo for U.S.-based guests), which offers low international transfer fees.
If you’d like to arrive earlier or extend your stay, we can help arrange accommodations and activities for you. Please note that any additional arrangements outside of the included pick-up and drop-off times will be at your own expense.
We can certainly suggest accommodations in Bali based on your preferences, whether near the airport for convenience or further out for exploration. Additionally, we offer add-on packages for Bali or surrounding islands with accommodations, transportation, and activities if you'd like to stay longer - learn more on our Trip Extension page.
If you cancel more than 90 days before the retreat start date, your payment (minus the non-refundable 50% deposit) can be applied as credit for a future Cosmic Cross Step retreat within one year. Cancellations made within 90 days are non-refundable. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your investment.
Yes! While surfing is the primary focus, we also include restoring yoga sessions, relaxation time, and local cultural experiences. You’ll have the chance to unwind, explore the island, and engage with the local community if you'd like to, however all activities are optional.
