"There are a few reasons why this retreat stands out in comparison to others. One of them would be the quality of coaching. I've done quite a few different retreats and Lena is probably the best surf coach I've met. She takes a holistic approach to surfing and is very good at teaching and breaking things down. I never realized how much doing land and technical drills is really important to then transfer to the water. Even though you're in a group with a spectrum of abilities, she gives a personalized approach to everybody so everyone gets the attention and advice they need regardless of where they are on their surf journey. Everyone gets out there and rips and makes progress and everyone is cheering each other on so it's a nice sense of community. Plus, the surf spot is absolutely incredible!"
"When I was deciding on what kind of surf camp or retreat I wanted to go on, I needed something that would suit myself and my partner who is more at an earlier stage only surfing for 1 year whereas I've been surfing consistently for 5 years so this retreat really attracted me because it was targeted for all levels and specifically for longboarding and learning longboarding style, which would be helpful for us since our boards are bigger, rather than going to a surf camp where you learn more short boarding style. We managed to surf in the same waves every single day and that was a massive highlight."
“I am more confident in my body as a surfer. I understand how to work with the water and let it take me rather than pushing myself into the waves - just relax more. I’ve got a lot to work on but this is the start of a journey that I absolutely will continue. The cross-step I’m still learning, I definitely did it a few times, it’s not as easy as it looks! Overall, I know more about myself as a surfer, I’ve come a long way in just 7 days.”
“Surfing in Los Angeles is really crowded. You show up as a beginner and its very intimidating. Here shockingly we had most spots to ourselves. My biggest thing here is that I could really focus on learning. With 1:1 coaching in pretty quiet waves, it removed a lot of the noise and chaos so I feel like I made more progress here in 6 days than I would have in weeks on my own back in California. It was pretty approachable for all skill levels so regardless of your level you never feel like you’re behind anyone else or too advanced for anyone.”
"It's really been the best surf week of my entire career. I've never surfed better longboard waves in my entire career, literally. I've learned a lot about longboarding, the classes are great, the yoga was absolutely amazing, and coach Lena is one of the best teachers I've ever seen. For me, the way you surf is also the way you walk in life and she makes that connection without ever spelling it out, it's just automatic."
You’ll receive 5 personalized video coaching sessions where your rides are broken down with constructive, clear feedback that you can start implementing the following day. Watching yourself surf is one of the fastest ways to improve — and these insights will stick with you long after the trip ends.
We believe that the foundation for great movement in the water starts on land and therefore see the value of land based practice when it comes to enhancing performance and skills in the water. Look forward to different land and mobility drills to help you improve balance, control, and technique.
